I know, I know, this entry is a month old. I have been busy and as the weeks go by I will get everyone up to speed and add more.
Normally Exotic Blend is held at a coffee shop in Redlands, but due to the threat of rain this event was held at the Oasis Dance Studio in Highland, Ca. It was a nice little studio. It doesn't have the ambiance of the coffee shop, but Blue Damsel put on one hell of a show with homemade baked goods, coffee and hot apple cider.
The theme this time was near and dear to me heart--Pirates. In fact, I was even press ganged into the Crew of the Blue Damsel number to be eye candy. Well, that turned into a little solo dance spot and about an hour or so before the show I was asked to MC.
Of course I humbly accepted and let me tell you we had a hoot of a time. Everyone in attendance was receptive and truly enjoying themselves. Many dressed the part and we had our own little Port Royal in the middle of Highland, California.
I put on me fancy garb, including me new coat and waistcoat from Black Scot at YorDreem Creations. If'n ye needs a coat or waistcoat or more, give him an e-mail and tell him I sent ya and he needs t'make a good deal for ya. I won't buy me coats from anyone else. They are superb and he is a great guy.
The first number to go up was one of my favorite people, Selena Troi. She is one of the most skilled zill players I have seen. She pulled of a mini Jack Sparrow outfit, though, not surprising, he was more feminine than she was--and she is quite feminine. Selena makes cowrie shell hair pieces and belt attachments and such. Check out her website at Tribal Hair and shoot her an e-mail. Tell her The Sage Lion sent ya.
The next up is the super beautiful Eden L'amour. This woman is very alluring and has a great big smile that just lights up the room. She is a fun dancer to watch. If you ever get a chance to see her belly dance or burlesque do not hesitate. Check out her website and tell her I sent ya. Tell her I said that she was soooooo wonderful also.
Now, sailing in all the way from Lancaster/Palmdale area was Hiplash. These women are so much fun to watch. They put on a little raucous pirate carousing that quickly turned into a very enjoyable belly dance routine. These women were obviously having fun and simply drew the audience in.
After Hiplash we held a short intermission and enjoyed each others company and ate and laughed. At the end of the intermission I shilled the upcoming events and we had our monthly theme costume contest. Well, there were like 10 people up there this time and they all looked superb. It got ugly when the final two were between a father and his daughter. They growled at each other and he whimpered away knowing that he was now the first mate in their household.
When we came back Selena danced again with a live drummer. I cannot remember his name so Selena, email it to me. He was great. His first performance and he handled it like a champ. And he was a really nice guy off stage as well. Great sense of humor. He was cruising along, drumming away when Selena totally broke up his mojo and threw him off. Of course, Selena affect most men's mojo, so no biggie. What a fun number.
The zuper zexy Zaheen was up next. She gave me a dissertation for her introduction. I actually had to spell it out phonetically because I cannot read and also, if you know belly dance names--Good Lord. Zaheen would like to give thanks to Muhulagawannanita Harkeemitihiittah. Other than trying to make me brain explode, Zaheen was awesome. Beautiful woman who makes that skirt just float. Very comfortable and confident, I enjoyed watching her and definitely enjoyed meeting her.
Up last t'were the Crew of the Blue Damsel. Keyhole Katie, Sugar Swamp, Crunchy Britches, Soggy Bottom and me beauteous wife, Salma Gundy. They came sailing on while I hollered for me crew. A rip roaring dance they did. (This is my favorite dance they have done). Kicking and spinning all in the name of a little shore leave. They even got me to shake me leg (not the one your thinking) a bit in the middle o the number.
Now, here I have to send out thanks to Greydog, who took pics for me while I was busy MCing. Greydog is the captain of the Orange Mermaid and of the the captains in our newly formed Alliance of the Double Cross.
The show drew to a close. I had successfully MC'd the show, telling bad pirate jokes and getting the crowd going. If ye were there and enjoyed the job I did, send me an e-mail and let me know. I had a great time, even when the crowd booed all of me jokes.
Now, if you want to see this dance again, we will be doin' it Sunday, October 21st at the Masonic Temple in Redlands. The address is 131 S. Cajon, Redlands, CA 92373. The show is from 2-6 pm. Go check out the Blue Damsel website for more info or call 909/338-3309.
If ye wants t'see some more belly dancing it will be there as well in a creepy kind of way.
The next Exotic Blend is this Friday evening at the coffee shop. Once again, check out the Blue Damsel website for more information.
Come on all of ye in Southern California, come out and show support for piracy and belly dancing everywhere. While ninjas are our enemies, belly dancers are our friends.
